Don't forget your mum ! Mothering Sunday March 22nd

To go forwards, sometimes you have to go backwards first ! We went back in time to check out the origins of Mothering Sunday, and we're very thankful that we get more than one day off a year !

Although no one is absolutely certain exactly how the idea of Mothering Sunday began, we do know that about four hundred years ago, people made a point of visiting their nearest big church (the Mother Church). People who visited their mother church would say they had gone "a mothering." Young English girls and boys 'in service' (maids and servants) were only allowed one day to visit their family each year. This was usually Mothering Sunday.

Flowers were the traditional gift to take, as the young girls and boys would have to walk home to their village, and could gather them on their way home through the meadows.

Following on from this story of old traditions, flowers are considered to be the gift to take on Mothering Sunday, whilst hearts never go out of style.

Reba has some gorgeous flower and heart jewellery to celebrate this special day. However you choose to celebrate this day, just be thankful that we get more than one day off per year, that sounds a bit harsh to us !!
